SAVE OUR CHILDREN!



I have come to learn through media about a certain organization which was operating as a home for children with different age categories and it collected them from various places. What is disheartening is that this organization misrepresented to the donor that the children were orphans and yet their parents were alive and thus used this as a scheme to get money from the donor.

As if this is not enough they further went and taught/inculcated a new religion into the children to the effect that the children were told to deny their parents and follow God’s path just as Abraham did. I was again at pains when one of the children denied his parent relying on the Bible as justification.

Children are a blessing to the parents from God and as such parents ought to take care of their children as enunciated in Article 34 of the Constitution and also Section 5 of the Children Act. The same article, 34 of the Constitution provides that every child deserves the right to know and be taken care of by their parents or guardians.

Therefore this act is criminal and as such the organization management should be interrogated and children taken back to their parents. However, the parents have a sole duty and obligation to take good care of their children and this also extends to investigating the so-called helpers who only use children as a bait to fishing money from unsuspecting children

Let us be vigilant and continue fighting against such acts so as to protect children.

Let us leave footprints in the lives of the children by joining hands to protect he rights of the children in Uganda.

The Computer Misuse (Amendment) Bill 2022 cures no mischief

  By Michael Aboneka Jr Hon. Muhammad Nsereko sought leave of Parliament to table an amendment bill to the Computer Misuse Act in February 2022 and has now tabled the bill on the floor of Parliament. In my view, there is nothing new that the new law is seeking to cure and I am waiting to read the Regulatory impact assessment and the justifications thereof beyond public debates.  From the proposed long title of the bill, objectives and the clause on defects in existing law, it is not clear and specific enough of what mischief the bill intends to cure. The amendment seeks to largely protect the right to privacy, prohibition of unlawful access to data and spreading of false information which are already protected by existing legal frameworks such as the Constitution, Children Act, the Human Rights Enforcement Act 2019, Penal Code Act, Data protection and privacy Act 2019 among others.
