FINDINGS ON A 2HR SURVEY ON THE RAMPANT IRON BAR HITTING IN KAMPALA

I took time this afternoon to do a little investigative study on the rampant and seemingly never ceasing Iron-hiting (Katayimbwa) on the boda boda men and below are my findings:
METHODOLOGY: Interactions with 5 Boda Boda men:
SCOPE: Kampala...Muyenga, Namuwongo, Nakasero, Wandeya and Clock tower)

FINDINGS
1.The hit men are always people who know the victim very well normally those working at the same stage.
2. The Katayimbwa scheme is always a planned series of activities which involves a number of people and not only the hit man/passenger
3. The hit man/Woman will always insist they take them to an area with minimum traffic and pedestrian movement
4. The hit man/woman will always create a scenario of delay when they get to the so called "destination" e.g they will on purpose pass on bigger notes to the boda man so as he looks for the change....
5. The hit man/woman who earlier informed his colleagues that he is on the way with victim now signals to their colleagues who then pounce on the victim assualting him to death.
6. The hit man/woman will always try to kill you as a way of destroying any evidence that might be linked to their crime.
7. Women are also used in these schemes since they are always more appealing to the boda boda men than men

RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Everyone should be security conscious
2. Please adhere to the rubric set by the boda boda man for example they will always ask you if you have changed money....please comply
3. To the Boda boda men/women; please avoid shortcuts and use main routes; always avoid isolated places
4. To Kampala Capital City Authority - KCCA please revamp the lighting systems
5. To Uganda Police Force beef up security in terms of patrols and also have organised meetings with the boda boda men and get their views and also give them safety tips.
6. To all road users, be very keen, cautious and collaborative.

FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY.
